Lecrae and Dee-1 Show Their Gratitude for Kendrick Lamar Mentioning Them on New Track
The rappers have solid friendships with the Compton native.
Lecrae and Dee-1 have shared their thoughts on Kendrick Lamar name-dropping them in his latest untitled track, which was released on Instagram earlier this week.
On Wednesday, K Dot unleashed a new untitled song in which he shouts out Lecrae and Dee-1, saying he wonders how they handle any type of friction they may have experienced in the rap game. Both rappers are known for their reflective style of rap music, where they analyze society and offer listeners ways to live righteously.
“Sometimes I wonder what Lecrae would do / Fuck these n***as up or show ’em just what prayer do?,” Kendrick raps towards the end of the song. “I want to be empathetic, my heart like Dee-1 / But I would.”
Both Lecrae and Dee-1 were honored by the mentions in the untitled song and headed to X to express their gratitude to Kendrick. “Love you Dot….Always here. [praying hands emoji],” tweeted Lecrae. Dee-1, on the other hand, shared a throwback photo of himself and Dot with a message indicating that change was coming
“I appreciate the shoutout brother. @kendricklamar [heart emoji] More than you’ll ever know. A shift is happening. The time is now! [praying hands emoji],” tweeted Dee-1.
Dee-1 also joined the debate about Lil Wayne not being selected to perform at the Super Bowl halftime show in New Orleans next year. In a recent Instagram Live session, the 39-year-old artist explained why he thinks Wayne doesn't deserve the opportunity. "Lil Wayne shouldn't be performing," he said.
During an interview earlier this year, Lecrae spoke on his friendship with Kendrick and how the Compton native reached out to him for advice. According to Lecrae, the bond is strong between them, and they have a high level of mutual respect for each other.
“One of the reason why Kendrick is one of my favorites is because early on, he was really transparent and honest and allowed me to be a voice in his life, and I’ll always be grateful to him for that,” said Lecrae. “It’s mutual respect, and I appreciate him for just trying to be a voice. We’re all wrestling in trying to put the pieces of the puzzle together. He knows I’m always down for the conversations and open to serving in any way I can.”
