Jay Electronica is defending Jay-Z after multiple major figures in hip-hop criticized him for selecting Kendrick Lamar to perform at the Super LIX Halftime Show in New Orleans next year.

"N***as got all this smoke for Hov but they ain't got no smoke for David Geffen and Jimmy Iovine and Lucian Grange and Lyor Cohen etcetera etcetera," Jay wrote on Wednesday, September 11. "I DO NOT RESPECT YOUR GANGSTER. You pussy."

In follow-up tweets, Jay cautioned his followers to "stop respecting these false gangstas who will kill they brother at the gas station over a few words or a few dollar and then run and throw they gun in the bushes when the police come." He added, "And let's be real. [50 Cent] just opened an entire industry in Shreveport and these pussay ass nights slave c**ning over a football game. If you don't get the fuck outta my face."

In further tweets, Jay asked why those critical of the choice to have Kendrick perform at the Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show, which many suggested should have gone to Lil Wayne, were looking to "gun bust at your brother over nothing."

He asked for them to "put 10 percent of this negative energy over a FOOTBALL game into unifying for one common cause." Jay added, "I will die in the war with the common enemy on the spot for Birdman and BG and Wayne and whoever else the same way I would Hov. We all we got. But who is man enough to say enough is enough."

After the news of Kendricks' Halftime Show selection broke, Birdman was among those to vent frustration with the decision to not get Lil Wayne to perform, because it's being held in his hometown. "Smfh," hew wrote. "These n***az pussi [Nicki Minaj] [Drake] [Lil Wayne] YMCMB," he wrote. "I'ma make these n***az respek us on Gladys ... Hatin shit 4real."

Earlier this week, fellow Young Money rapper Nicki Minaj appeared to shade Jay-Z for the decision, referring to how Hov's Roc Nation is in a long-term partnership with the NFL as the league's official live music entertainment strategist. She made it clear that Lil Wayne should be performing instead but later clarified that she has no issue with Kendrick Lamar. "You can love & respect Kendrick and still love & respect Wayne," she wrote. "Even Kendrick loves & respect Wayne." Drake, meanwhile, shared an image of Lil Wayne on Instagram.

Cam'ron and Mase suggested that Jay was responsible for blocking Wayne from the opportunity due to their complicated history. Cam said that it's "egregious" that Weezy isn't performing at the New Orleans Super Bowl, even though it's never been a requirement for major artists to get the Halftime Show when it hits their hometown. Rihanna performed last year when it was held in Arizona, for instance, and The Weeknd (who is Canadian) performed in 2021 when it was held in Florida. Boosie also suggested that it was a "smack in the face" to the legacy of hip-hop in Louisiana.

Funkmaster Flex said that he believes people need to "stop blaming Jay-Z for everything" because the NFL "never cared about people of color" before Hov came on board. Fat Joe also came to the defense of Jay-Z and said if Roc Nation never partnered with the NFL, there would never be hip-hop artists at the Halftime Show.
