The man convicted of the murder of rapper PnB Rock was sentenced to 31 years to life in prison on Monday, CBS News reports. Freddie Lee Trone, 42, was found guilty of murder, conspiracy to commit robbery, and two counts of second-degree robbery by a jury last month.

Prosecutors said that Trone instructed his then-17-year-old son to shoot and kill PnB Rock in 2022 while he dined at a Roscoe’s House of Chicken & Waffles in South Los Angeles.

The rapper, whose real name is Rakim Allen, was with his fiancée when Trone’s son walked into the restaurant and demanded his jewelry before shooting him. He later died at a local hospital.

In August, Trone denied involvement with the robbery and murder and claimed he wasn’t at the restaurant on the day of the incident during his testimony. However, surveillance footage shared with the court showed Trone was in the parking lot about 30 minutes prior to the shooting. The man said he was handling business for his nearby beauty shop.

Trone’s son remains in custody until a judge determines if he is competent to stand trial.

Another defendant named Tremont Jones was also found guilty of two robbery counts and conspiracy to commit robbery in connection to the incident, but he was not charged with murder. He was sentenced to 12 years in prison.

PnB Rock’s shocking death inspired tributes from many major players in hip-hop including Drake, Nicki Minaj, Meek Mill, YG, among others.
