Nicki Minaj Slams Stephen A. Smith, Clowns His Hairline After He Criticized Her Super Bowl Comments: ‘Ugly’

Stephen A. Smith and Nicki Minaj are embroiled in a back-and-forth over the Super Bowl Halftime show.

During the September 11 episode of his eponymous podcast, Smith took the time to challenge Nicki on her Super Bowl Halftime Show rant that was seemingly aimed at Jay Z. Nicki’s comments came after Kendrick Lamar was announced as the headliner for the 2025 halftime show, which is set to go down February 9 in New Orleans. Although Nicki insisted K. Dot deserved “love and respect,” she believed Young Money boss Lil Wayne should’ve gotten the gig, as he’s a New Orleans native.

Smith said he understood where Nicki was coming from, but didn’t appreciate the way she directed her frustration toward Hov, who has co-produced the halftime show since 2019.

“I’m pretty pissed off. Jay Z is my boy. Make no mistake about that,” he said. “If he were wrong, I wouldn’t say much. If he’s right, I’d have more to say. But under no circumstances am I going to be quiet when you’re talking about him like that, Nicki Minaj… Respectfully, that’s so bullshit.”

Nicki had implied that Jay had snubbed Lil Wayne due to petty rap beefs and money.

“Denying a young black man what he rightfully put into this game for no other reason but your ego,” she wrote on X. “Your hatred for BIRDMAN, Drake & Nicki got you punishing Lil Wayne?!?!!! LIL WAYNE!!!!!! THE GOAT ?!!!!!!! Nola what’s good?!!!!!! Eminem stood firm on having 50 Cent come out. A white man. Shit sad. House n****r tingz. But it’s GOOD FI DEM!!!!!! No loyalty? Well Then n****z will keep son’ing you!!!!”

Smith said he respected Nicki’s accomplishments, but questioned why she was going so hard on Jay Z.

“Who else [are] you going to get in a beef with?” he asked before listing off some of her most prominent foes. “Every time we turn around it’s something, Nicki. You disagree with the decision, you disagree with the decision, but you have to talk to a brother like that?… Need I remind y’all of all the hip hop artists, all the R&B people that have been performing at Super Bowl halftime since [Jay’s] been involved in 2019? You know how hard it is for a Black man to pull off what Jay Z pulled off?”

Smith told Nicki that the situation was bigger than any individual and that Jay’s involvement with the halftime show was beneficial for the Black community.

“Jay Z has been front and center in pushing the envelope. You going to call him a sellout?” Smith continued. “He don’t deserve that. This some BS… You beefing with him like you’re beefing with Megan Thee Stallion? I don’t know… You can’t just disagree with [the Kendrick] decision? … Last time I checked Kendrick Lamar’s a Black man who’s a superstar… It ain’t like Jay Z told Lil Wayne to stay home… Y’all need to stop looking for excuses to try to turn individuals in our community against one of its own, just because they didn’t make the decision you thought they should make.”

Nicki caught wind of Smith’s comments and fired back with some choice words.

“Oh look yall another paid laughy taffy alien who only comes off his knees to turn around & back dat azz up,” she wrote on X. “LMFAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. Stephen, we don’t care. Ima tell u right now. We don’t care. If I say more it’ll be your fault. Sit down ugly.”

She also took a few swipes at Smith’s hairline.
