THe 45-year-old singer was diagnosed with the disorder two years ago.
Nelly Furtado was only recently diagnosed with ADHD.
The “Promiscuous” singer appeared on The Breakfast Club, where she talked about using the disorder to her benefit during the creation of her new album, 7.
“My brain’s different,” she said at around the 2:45 minute mark. “I have a lot of channels in my brain. I have inattentive ADHD, and this time when I made this record, I was like, ‘I’m just going to lean into that. I’m going to write 10 songs at once. I’m going to invite 50 people at once to the studio. I am going to stay up late til 8 a.m. I’m going to see what this brain can do.’”
The 45-year-old was diagnosed only two years ago and describes the journey as requiring “self-acceptance” and “self-love.”
Furtado publicly revealed her diagnosis in May 2023. “I believe I’ve had it my whole life, but playing instruments six days a week as a kid kept me in check,” she told Fault Magazine.
“I think it was probably a blessing that they didn’t know until now,” she added. “Because I think I’m mature enough now to not be overly dramatic about it and just deal with it and find solutions rather than dwell on the emotional side of it.”
Her album, 7 boasts collaborations with Wondagurl, Charlotte Day Wilson, Tove Lo, and more.
