Missouri Was Shut Out for the First Time in 12 Years Today

The Missouri Tigers experienced a major beat down at the hands of Georgia

The University of Missouri, or Mizzou as the cool kids call it, has experienced something of a football renaissance over the last seven years. It began with the high powered, Chase Daniel-led offense in 2007, who then handed over the reigns to the much-hyped Blaine Gabbert in 2009. The defense caught up to the talent on offense when James Franklin took over for Gabbert, culminating in Mizzou's clinching of the SEC East last season.

But things have gotten weird this year. First, Mizzou lost at home to Indiana, which led to a flurry of "SMH" tweets flowing out of central Missouri. Then, after storming back to win a huge game in South Carolina the following week, Mizzou laid an ostrich sized egg against 13th ranked Georgia earlier today. Quarterback Maty Mauk, apparently trying to emulate Gabbert's Jacksonville Jaguars career, completed just nine passes, and failed to throw for over 100 yards on the day. He also threw four picks, one of which saw Mauk rolling away from pressure and just launching the ball into a cluster of waiting Georgia defenders, leading to Mauk going WWE on a Bulldog defensive lineman, seen above. Mizzou would end up losing 34-0, the first time the Tigers have been shutout since 2002 when they lost to Kansas State 38-0. Yikes.
