Out of all the external factors that could cost an athlete an Olympic medal, their genitals aren't exactly the first thing to worry about – until now.

French pole vaulter Anthony Ammirati is going viral after missing his target height. In video and photographic footage of the incident, he knocked the pole down with his bulge as he came down.

As expected, commentators had a difficult time explaining what happened. Luckily, the slow-mo captures the 21-year-old athlete's rough loss.

The internet obviously had to weigh in with some jokes.

Luckily, France is still having a great Olympic run with 41 medals under their belt behind China. Don't worry, the U.S. is fourth but has some opportunity to catch up.

And as for Ammirati, his Instagram following is steadily growing by the minute. Don't be surprised if comments are turned off until everyone gets their act together. One thing's for sure: it's good Adele didn't broadcast this event to her packed-out Germany show.
