Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill has addressed a recent incident that saw him briefly detained hours before his first game of the season on Sunday, Sept. 8.

In a post-game interview with reporters, per USA Today, Hill said that he was informed that he had been apprehended for speeding and reckless driving while he was being placed in handcuffs outside of the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens. "They said I was speeding, reckless driving or whatever," he told reporters, noting that he did not tell the officers who he was. "I wasn’t raised like that to name-drop. If you said I did something, write me a ticket and do whatever you have to do. But don’t be disrespectful."

He said that he was pulled over and detained while driving to work, but it was resolved shortly after he was placed in handcuffs, allowing him to make his season debut. "It happened so fast. It caught me off guard," he added.

After the incident, the Miami-Dade Police Department launched an investigation and placed one of the officers involved on administrative leave. "That should tell you everything you need to know," said Hill when he was told about the action taken against the officer.

Despite the detainment, Hill said that he has "a lot of respect for cops" and wants to use his platform to speak about the incident. "I want to be a cop one day," he noted. "Obviously, everybody has bad apples in every situation. I want to be able to use this platform to figure out a way to flip this and make this a positive on both ends, on my end and Miami-Dade, so we can do something positive for the community."
