It looks like Conor McGregor will be given the opportunity to become the UFC's first two-weight champion.

After beating long-reigning featherweight champion Jose Aldo in a matter of seconds last month, McGregor immediately set his sights on claiming the lightweight title at 155 lbs.

–UFC president Dana White had initially seemed reluctant to sanction McGregor's wishes to flutter between weight classes – defending two belts at once – but in an interview with UFC Tonight, he said if anyone can do it – Conor can:

""Conor has said he would like to win the 155-pound belt and fight four times a year and defend both belts. If anybody can do it, Conor McGregor can. This guy has done pretty much everything he said he would do so I'm interested.

McGregor is already getting used to a champion's lifestyle.

Conor's quest to be a two-weight champion is his latest attempt to make UFC history.

To date, only B.J. Penn has fought for a second title in another division, but his attempt ended with a loss at UFC 94 in 2009.

If McGregor is successful in his pursuit of a title fight in an increased weight class, he's likely to clash with lightweight titleholder Rafael dos Anjos (14 wins, 5 losses in UFC) before the end of 2016.
