Joaquin Phoenix apparently blew Lady Gaga away when she heard his singing voice.

In a new interview with Empire, the actor stated the Grammy Award was so blown away when he first sang for her that she spit out her coffee. Phoenix and Gaga are starring in the upcoming Joker: Folie À Deux, the sequel to 2019's Joker.

"I do seem to remember her spitting up coffee... so that felt good, that was exciting, and made me feel confident," said Phoenix. "Gaga was always very encouraging of just, 'go with what you feel, it's fine'… For somebody who's not a performer in that way, it can be... uncomfortable to do that, but also very exciting."

Joker: Folie À Deux continues the story of Arthur Fleck, who's now institutionalized at Arkham Asylum and waiting to stand trial for his crimes from the first film. While at Arkham, he falls in love with a therapist and music.

According to Variety, the sequel is "mostly a jukebox musical," with at least "15 reinterpretations of very well-known songs." Sources also claim discussions are being held to have Joker: Folie À Deux premiere at the 2024 Venice Film Festival.

The film's cast also includes Zazie Beetz, Catherine Keener, Brendan Gleeson, and more, while boasting a $200 million budget. The first Joker film grossed over $1 billion worldwide and led the Oscars with 11 nominations.
