A shooting in Brooklyn killed one teenager dead and another injured yesterday evening, authorities say.

The New York Daily News reports that a group fired roughly six shots at 16-year-old Dontea "Ted" Bascom and his cousin 13-year-old cousin, Michael Parnell, as they sat on a bench in the Marcy Projects just after 7 p.m.:

There was a pop, pop, pop, pop — between four and six shots, said Bishop Robert Shaw, 46, who runs a nearby church. One kid was shot in the chest. He was on his side like he was in his mother’s womb.

Bascom, who was hit in the groin, was pronounced dead at Kings County Hospital. Parnell sustained gunshot wounds to the chest and leg, and was taken to Bellevue Hospital. According to the Daily News, he's expected to survive.

The Daily News adds that the NYPD arrested 14 suspects last night. A source told them that the shooting may have been retaliation for another which injured two people in Bedford-Stuyvesant on Sunday. As of this morning, no charges have been filed.
