It’s one thing to chase a dream. It’s an entirely different game to catch it.

You have to possess vision, stamina, grit and a confidence so strong that not even your worst days can throw you off. This is what makes the creators launching Walmart’s Nuevolution Project so special.

First, we have Wish me Luck, created by founders Alex Ordonez and Sam Dameshek. And their intention to chasing their dreams is why their streetwear brand has not only taken off, but is also now being sold in Walmart.

“Back-to-school shopping every year at Walmart and now fast-forward, here we are,” Ordonez says.

Wish Me Luck is one of several Hispanic-owned brands that are now part of Walmart’s Nuevolution Project, which aims to highlight and celebrate visionary creatives shaping culture. Another creator is Roberto Lugo, a Philadelphia-based Puerto Rican graffiti artist and ceramicist.

For Lugo, access to his art has always been a top priority, and his art is all tied to his heritage. “My patterns draw from art history, my Puerto Rican heritage, as well as culture today. It is great to be in fine museums and galleries, but this Walmart collection brings my art to life in a new way,” said Lugo.

Both collections are capsule collections, with Walmart making designer pieces accessible to everyday consumers while celebrating creativity and culture, merging fashion with purpose. They include premium T-shirts, hoodies, trucker jackets and hats, home products, and more.

To kick off the initiative with Wish me Luck, Ordonez, Dameshek and a few of their friends traveled with Complex back to Ordonez’ hometown of Hartford, Connecticut. There the group reflected on their humble beginnings and how far they’ve come. Ordonez admits he didn’t have a lot growing up but says, “I always made things happen.” Having an eye for fashion, it was only natural he chart his own path and start his own brand. But even Ordonez couldn’t imagine a full-circle moment like this.

“Being a Hispanic-owned brand and executing this project in my hometown is by far the best thing ever,” Ordonez says. “And delivering it, showing it to the kids, showing it to my parents, showing it to Hispanics, and everyone around this environment. [Just] showing that anything is possible.”

In conjunction with Wish Me Luck, NTWRK will release a one-of-one bomber jacket in the brand’s signature silhouette exclusively on the app, 4:30 PT/7:30 ET PM, Thursday, September 19, on the app.
