In an hour-long interview with Charlamagne Tha God, comedian Kevin Hart said that he regrets responding to what Katt Williams during his infamous Club Shay Shay Interview.

When asked about the feud between the two comedians, around the 49:20 mark, Hart made it clear that he only said what he said about Williams because he criticized Tiffany Haddish. Charlamagne suggested that some people believed that Hart said what he said unprovoked, but that wasn't the case at all.

"I think there's probably one moment where I've talked about Katt publicly," he said, referring to a 2018 interview on The Breakfast Club. "We were promoting Night School, and Tiffany was affected by some of the things he said. It was more of a, like, support for her in that moment and some shots at him."

Asked if he regrets responding to Williams, the comedian said he does. "Yeah, I should never address him, at all," he said. "I don't have to. Like, why? What will it do for me? What will I gain? There's no gain. I look at everything from a business and economic standpoint. If I'm investing in something, what is my return? ... If I can't answer that question... then it doesn't get energy."

Per Business Insider, Williams referred to Hart as a "puppet" in 2016 and later challenged him to a standoff-style comedy show in Philadelphia. Later down the line, however, he apologized for his comments, which he described as "regrettable." It flared back up in 2018 after Hart defended his Night School co-star Tiffany Haddish and expressed his "frustration" with Williams.

"You keep pointing at Hollywood, 'Hollywood and the white man, this, this, and this,' when do you take responsibility for your actions? You had the shot! You were the guy!" Hart said at the time. "You were set up to be the star. You didn't show up to work." The feud stayed dormant for years, but when Williams tore into Hart in his infamous Club Shay Shay Interview, in which he called him an "industry plant" and a "gatekeeper."

Hart addressed the criticism during a conversation with Wall Street Journal Magazine, and dismissed the criticism without directly criticizing Williams this time around. "It's just that. It's entertainment," Hart said. "If that's what he fuels himself off, God bless him. Good for him. I hope he gets all that he needs and he wants, and I'm here cheering for him from afar. ... That's my real energy. I really mean it! That's how happy and secure I am with my career and my life."

In Hart's new interview with Charlamagne, he once again dismissed the "industry plant" tag, noting that his start in comedy is well-documented.

“It’s the biggest compliment ever,” he said of the "industry plant" tag at the 21:30 marl of the interview. “When you hear things like that, you just… You got a give a nod to common sense versus lack thereof. You know, I had a conversation with my daughter one day, and she was asking a question and debating the hypothetical, if something was real versus not. I said, ‘Everything is researchable if you really want to know it.’ … So if you really give a shit, you can go and see. I mean, the industry plant conversation is what? What does that mean?”
