Variety revealed some of the biggest single-movie paychecks in Hollywood this year, with Ryan Reynolds, Dwayne Johnson, and Robert Downey, Jr. landing some of the biggest payouts.
Ryan Reynolds topped the list with a $27 million check for Netflix's upcoming movie Six Underground. It's worth noting that Netflix movie deals come with a caveat that's different from a standard movie contract. What they get for the project is what they get, with no traditional box office cuts that would be beneficial on a huge streaming hit.
Dwayne Johnson came in at No. 2 with a $20 million payday for the Fast & Furious franchise spin-off, Hobbs & Shaw. The Rock was tied with RDJ, who pulled in $20 million for The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle. Downey plays the titular animal-talking doctor and Variety says that the star hopes the film will kick off a franchise.
Will Smith follows, earning $17 million for his role in the hotly anticipated Bad Boys movie. Jason Statham comes in behind Smith (and his Fast & Furious co-star) with $13 million for Hobbs & Shaw, while British actor Idris Elba takes home $8 million for his role in the film as 'Brixton'.
Emily Blunt landed the largest check of the list for a woman. Variety said that she earned $12-13 million for the sequel to A Quiet Place. Leonardo DiCaprio, Gal Gadot and Brad Pitt all made $10 million for a single movie. Leo and Brad both for Quentin Tarantino's upcoming Once Upon A Time In Hollywood and Gadot for her second movie as Wonder Woman.
