OK, so it’s not quite Batman. But Gotham still stands a chance to be good thanks to the work of The O.C. veteran Ben McKenzie, and in this preview we get to see the former Ryan Atwood’s forceful low-talking in all its glory.

As Jim Gordon, McKenzie will be doing battle with many staple enemies from the Batman universe, with familiar names like the Penguin and the Riddler. But really, it’s the sinister Jada Pinkett Smith playing the not-so-sinisterly-named Fish Mooney who seems like the most formidable opponent for Gordon and Co.

The show kicks off on September 22, and has gotten favorable reviews so far. There’s a 0 percent chance it makes us forget about Christian Bale, Christopher Nolan, et al., but it should at least tide fans over until Batman V Superman hits theaters.
