Lil Yachty Responds to Anderson .Paak, Defends His Lack of Hip-Hop Knowledge

Earlier this month, Lil Yachty admitted that he couldn't name five songs by 2Pac or The Notorious B.I.G. This isn't all that surprising, considering that Yachty just turned 19 years old, meaning that he wasn't even born yet when Ready To Die dropped. Still, some hip-hop fans took offense to the fact that Lil Yachty was so ready to admit that he wasn't familiar with the two rap legends.
Anderson .Paak tweeted what may have been a response or may have been a coincidentally related statement: "Don't be cocky in the fact that you don't know anything about hip-hop history. Real artists are students of the game first."
Lil Yachty saw the tweet and issued a response in defense of his perspective. "I think it's funny how people feel like you HAVE to like something just cause everybody else does," Yachty said. "Where in the handbook of hip-hop does it say u must know this list of songs to make music."
