BadBadNotGood Recruit Kaytranada for "Lavender"

It must be a Canadian thing. After finding quick chemistry on “Weight Off,” an early standout from Kaytranada’s excellent debut 99.9%, BadBadNotGood linked up with their fellow countryman again on the latest single from their next album IV (out on July 8).

“[Kaytranada] is so musical and talented it’s crazy, not to mention one of the nicest, most humble people we’ve ever met,” the jazz quartet told us last month. “Getting in the studio with him is the best time. We’ll write samples, then he’ll hop on a synth he’s never used before and write the perfect line!”

That chemistry has “grown into a very special collaborative friendship” and that makes itself very apparent on “Lavender.” The meandering piece feels like a natural improvisation between buddies (because it was likely exactly that) with the polish and refinement necessary for an album placement and inevitable repeat listens.
