Following last week’s release of their excellent fourth studio album, IV, BadBadNotGood sat down with Billboard to reflect on their career and the many collaborations they’ve piled up along the way.

With contributions from Ghostface Killah, MF Doom, Danny Brown, and many more sprinkled across their discography, the Canadian quartet took a moment to consider the easiest, most seamless collaboration they’ve ever experienced. The answer was easy: their friend Kaytranada.

“Easiest was Kaytranada,” answered Matt Tavares. “That was the most organic thing that’s ever happened.” Teasing many more collaborations to come, Chester Hansen added, “We’ve probably made like 50 songs by now or something.”

Speaking on the origin of the fruitful friendship, Alexander Sowinski said, “He did a huge solid for us and gave us a remix for one of the songs off of III named ‘Kaleidoscope,’ and then he came to one of our shows when we were playing in Montreal and then did a huge solid for us and came to Toronto and played a surprise DJ set at our show, which is pretty intense because he’s a pretty expensive bill and he’s a legend. The next day we went into the studio right away and made a bunch of stuff.”

After revealing that their favorite pop songs of 2016 included Desiigner’s “Panda” and “Work” by Rihanna, Hansen explained how he ended up with a writing credit on Rihanna’s “Sex With Me” and was sampled on Drake’s “0 to 100.”

“Frank Dukes has been doing all these samples and all of us, if we have free time, we’ll get together with him and do random stuff, and that was just one of those ideas we did two years ago that PartyNextDoor wrote a song to and sent it to Rihanna.” On the Drake contribution, he said, “The process of that was so weird. It’s just something me and Dukes did and we were just hanging out, and then two years later, I’m like, “Oh, shit! Song of the summer!”
