Along with vinyl, cassette tapes are also making a comeback as the latest en vogue form of vintage media formats, and Eminem is on board. He shared a photo of his cassette collection a few weeks ago, and now, he has decided to re-release his 1999 sophomore album The Slim Shady LP on cassette.

As Eminem noted on Instagram, the album celebrated its 17th anniversary in February. The release date for the re-release is not yet clear, but there is a sign-up for early access to the cassette, as well as “exclusive merchandise” presumably related to the album, on the Shady Records website.

The cassette tape revival is legitimate: National Audio Company, the largest manufacturer of cassette tapes in the U.S., produced more than 10 million tapes in 2014, and sales were up in 20 percent in 2015 (as of September 2015). NAC has deals with indie bands, as well as major record labels like Sony Music Entertainment and Universal Music Group (the parent company of Interscope records, Eminem’s current label).
