Drake’s “Back To Back” is currently up for Grammy consideration, which is more impressive in light of a recent interview with 20-year-old Toronto producer Daxz, who told Complex that the Meek Mill diss track was completed over the course of about 11 hours.

Daxz and Drake producer and OVO Sound co-founder Noah “40” Shebib have an arrangement where Daxz sends beats to Shebib, who then finds a rapper who wants to use them. Daxz sent the instrumental for “Back To Back” to Shebib at 6 p.m. on July 28, and then Shabib called Daxz to tell him to meet him and Drake in the studio at around midnight.

That was when Daxz met Drake for the first time, having previously received co-producer credit for “6 Man” from If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late.

“They told me they were making the track right there, and within an hour he dropped it on SoundCloud,” Daxz said. “It was 5 a.m., and he just dropped it. It all happened in the same day. I felt like I needed to send them beats after seeing all these producers getting looks from ‘Charged Up’ and ‘Hotline Bling.'”

Daxz said that Drake wrote the song on the spot, and that everybody in the studio knew the track would be huge.

“Around the time they were finishing up around the track at 4 a.m., I was sitting in the studio like, ‘Is this shit really gonna go down right now?,” he said. “Are we just gonna drop this randomly out of nowhere? I didn’t take it in completely until the drive home, and when I got home, the entire Internet was going crazy.”
