Skepta Says He's Putting the Finishing Touches On His 'Konnichiwa' Album

Skepta has had a whirlwind few years leading up to fourth studio album, Konnichiwa. Originally due to drop last year, he’s appeared on the same stage as Drake and Kanye West since, meaning he’s really stepped things up a notch. With his appearances on tracks from artists outside of the grime scene, Skepta has become somewhat of a figurehead for grime outside of the UK, with many saying he’s to thank for grime’s growing popularity in the states.
But now, after a series of brilliant singles and strong friendships with artists like Drake, it looks like Skepta is finally ready for his biggest moment yet. Speaking with i-D, Skepta said that he’s finishing the album this week. “Finished! Done” Three years of my life encapsulated on a CD,” he said. He’s since shared a picture of the official tracklist being worked on via his Instagram, meaning that the album looks like it’ll finally be releasing sometime soon.
With his recent connection to Uniqlo as a brand ambassador, and with the title of the album, Skepta said that he’ll be performing in Japan sometime in May. “Japan’s been trying to get me out there to do shows, but I didn’t want to go there without my album,” he said. “I want my whole Konnichiwa setting to be correct when I go there.” Here’s hoping that means Konnichiwa will be seeing its release before his debut show in Japan, then.
