Lil MamaΒ is looking to start a βheterosexual rights movement.βΒ
The 31-year-old entertainer made the announcement earlier this weekΒ amid mounting backlash over a series of transphobic comments. Lil Mama explained the movement was necessary to protect herself, andΒ other heterosexuals, from being bullied by the LGBTQ+ community.
βYβall fight so hard to be respected and SOME of you, NOT ALL, get a kick out bullying people for having an option, how they dress, how their hair and or makeup looks, how much money they have, etc,β she wrote in an Instagram story. βThere are so many people afraid to give their honest opinion (sic) because if they do the LGBTQ+ will hear what they want to hear and take statements out of context.Β I donβt have to prove myself by reminding people that I have loved ones of the LGBTQ+ Community. When I speak Iβm not trying to hurt anyone, Iβm just speaking my truth, just like you all.β
Lil Mama caught heat earlier this month when she shared her thoughts on transgender children, and suggested that being transgenderΒ was βdepopulation at any cost.β She shared a tweet that read: βSo children are too young to smoke cigarettes, too young to drink alcohol, too young to get a driverβs license, too young to go to a club, too young to gamble, too young to rent a car, but old enough to cut off their genitals and/or βchangeβ their gender? This is insanity America.β The post came shortly afterΒ Michelle Obamaβs interview with Zaya WadeβDwyane Wade and Gabrielle Unionβs 13-year-old trans daughter.
As the criticism began pouring in, many Twitter users pointed out that Lil Mama had a history of making transphobic comments. Some pointed to a 2009 clip from MTVβsΒ Americaβs Best Dance CrewΒ in which she was critical ofΒ transgender dancer/choreographerΒ Leiomy Maldonado.
βLeiomy, come on. Your behavior, itβs unacceptable,β said Lil Mama, who judged the competition series for seven seasons. βI just feel that you always have to remember your truth. βYou were born a man and you are becoming a woman. If youβre going to become a woman, act like a ladyβ¦ You know what Iβm saying? It gets too crazy and it gets confusing.β
Maldonado, who is now a judge on HBO MaxβsΒ Legendary, responded to the backlash via Twitter on Friday:
