Watch Lil B Graciously Knight a Humanoid Robot: 'NEO, You Are Blessed'

Call him NEO the BasedBot.

September 18, 2024

Lil B, never one to shy away from something new, recently paid a visit to the team behind AI robotics company 1X to dip his toes into the humanoid experience.

As seen in the video up top, which was captured by Silicon Valley Media Group, the BasedGod himself did indeed grace the team with his presence, at one point posing for a photo with the company’s VP of AI, Eric Jang, as seen below. Now in development, and recently teased in beta form with a public unveiling, NEO is billed by the 1X team as “your intelligent, everyday assistant.” The helper’s vision and movement, per 1X, are capable of being “taken over by a remote human operator” if needed. NEO is 5.41 feet tall, weighs just 66 pounds, and can run for up to four hours at a time.

“How we doing?” B is seen asking NEO, with the humanoid later offering a hand gesture that should be familiar to longtime Based enthusiasts. B also asked NEO for clarification on their pronouns, prompting 1X team members to note that this particular aspect of their identity hasn’t yet been worked out. In response, B advises NEO to, simply, “just be you.”

Naturally, B was also asked to knight NEO, thus giving him the same honor once bestowed upon a young Timothée Chalamet.

“So, NEO, you are blessed,” B said when performing the impromptu ceremony. “Shout-out from the Based God. You are blessed. Love, love. Shout out to the whole team. Blessings to the whole team. Swag. Swag to the whole team.”

Elsewhere, B and NEO embraced in both a hug and a fist-bump, all leading up to B being outfitted with the wearable gear required to control the movements of EVE, a data-collecting humanoid. In an understandable move, this saw B utilizing the tech to give himself a brief back massage.

Per the Based God, the meeting itself was “an honor” and part of a “legendary day.” But before heading out, he was asked to give the 1X team a quick definition on the larger Based philosophy.

“So Based really means positive,” he pointed out. “Like, you know, being yourself, having people accept you for who you are, spreading love. Really just coming from a place of positivity. Based, really, that’s what the core of Based is from.”

In August, 1X gave the world an in-depth look at NEO Beta, with CEO Bernt Børnich pointing to safety as both the “priority” and “cornerstone” in this latest development. A limited amount of NEO humanoid robots are being put into select homes this year as part of a larger research process, the company said at the time.
