Mariah the Scientist Talks Young Thug Relationship, Says She Goes to Court Hearings Just to 'Breathe His Air'
The ATL singer shed more light on how she's "holding down" for Thug while he's behind bars.
Mariah the Scientist never imagined she’d be dating a man who was behind bars.
The Atlanta singer was romantically linked to Young Thug in the summer of 2021, months before he was arrested on gang and racketeering charges in Atlanta. Thugger has been incarcerated ever since, and his criminal trial is now the longest in Georgia’s history. While Mariah admits that their situation isn’t easy, she insists Thug’s legal battle hasn’t diminished their love.
She spoke about her relationship in a recent episode of Angel Reese’s Unapologetically Angel podcast with fellow guest Latto.
“It’s cute, you know. I love him,” Mariah said when asked about her and Thug’s romance. “It is kind of like [long-distance] but I get to see him in court, so I be going to court. Sometimes I fall asleep in there. I just go to breathe his air… I love my man, yes. I love him.”
She continued: “It’s hard… If somebody told me that a few months into my relationship my man would get locked up? He’s been locked up now for longer than we were in a relationship before he got locked up.”
Reese and Latto praised Mariah for supporting her beau for so long; but Mariah acknowledged that some think she’s “holding it too down” for her man.
“No, no, no. Don’t say too down,” Reese pushed back. “It’s never too down. Girls are dying for your spot.”
Elsewhere in the episode, Mariah shared her candid thoughts on marriage. Although she said she was open to tying the knot someday, Mariah felt that marriage was overly romanticized.
“I feel like when girls grow up, you think about marriage and you just think, ‘Oh, it’s so cute. We’re going to get the dress and the ring and it’s going to be this ceremony and we’re going to get turned up afterwards,’” she explained, “but nobody’s thinking about… How can I put this? I would love to be together forever, but with marriages, you assume there are liabilities, as well; like, if they have children or if they owe $100 million in taxes…you become one. So I just feel like it should be worth it.”

Latto also touched on her dating life and why she prefers to keep it under wraps.
“What’s secret and what’s private? Because my shit ain’t secret to those who need to know,” she said. “[My] momma knows what’s up… why do y’all need to know? At this point, I feel like I’m going to have a baby in secret. I’ma have my marriage in secret.”
Latto said she liked keeping certain parts of her life out of the public eye because of all the negativity that comes with fame.
“Since y’all know so much, I’ma make sure y’all know nothing,” she said. “I feel like people just be wanting to see you down. When people feel like they know something or when they do know something, they just come out of the woodwork… They just be talking too much.”
