Kanye West says his previous antisemitic comments were fueled by alcohol.

In a newly surfaced 2022 interview with Candace Owens, West, now known as Ye, admitted he was drinking when he posted several antisemitic tweets in October of that year. These tweets sparked controversy and led to significant business losses for him.

"I definitely was drinking when I put up the death con tweet," he told Owens at the 1:06:37 mark of the video below. "You know whose, I wanna say alcohol I had inside me?” he asked her. “Hennessy. Hennessy. It turns us gray. Literally, the demons [come in]."

When asked why he hadn’t previously revealed he was drunk, he said, "Because it keeps taking away the fact of what I was saying or what I was about to do." He explained that "sometimes the truth comes through," but if people knew he was drinking, they would try to "discredit" him.

In October 2022, Yeezy tweeted that he was "going death con 3 On JEWISH PEOPLE … You guys have toyed with me and tried to black ball anyone whoever opposes your agenda."

He also shared a screenshot of his text thread with Diddy, where he wrote, "Ima use you as an example to show the Jewish people that told you to call me that no one can threaten or influence me."

In the ensuing backlash, Adidas parted ways with Kanye and his Yeezy brand, and Gap stopped stocking the Donda rapper’s products. Ye later issued an apology in December 2023.

"I sincerely apologise to the Jewish community," he wrote on Instagram. "It was not my intention to hurt or demean, and I deeply regret any pain I may have caused. I am committed to starting with myself and learning from this experience to ensure greater sensitivity and understanding in the future. Your forgiveness is important to me, and I am committed to making amends and promoting unity."
