Metro Boomin, Jacquees, Quavo, and More Mourn Death of Rich Homie Quan

The Atlanta rapper died at his home on Thursday, Sept. 5. He was 34.

Fellow artists and collaborators of Rich Homie Quan are mourning the rapper following his sudden death at age 34.

On Thursday, Sept. 5, reports started to circulate that the Atlanta rapper had died following an apparent overdose. TMZ later confirmed his death with his family and a representative from the Fulton County morgue. His family has not confirmed a cause of death.

Born Dequantes Devontay Lamar in 1989, Rich Homie Quan broke into the mainstream following the success of his 2013 single "Type of Way." He gained further success alongside Young Thug with tracks such as "Lifestyle," which is considered an influential moment in the rise of Atlanta's hip-hop scene during the '10s.

After the tragic news of his passing, collaborators and famous fans alike took to social media to mourn the rapper.

"Rest in peace my brother Rich Homie Quan," wrote Jacquees, who collaborated with the rapper multiple times. "I love you for life. #Richgang."

"Just got word [Rich Homie Quan] just OD," wrote Boosie Badazz in a tweet. "Just talk to Wuan the other #gomissun***a."

In further tweets, he wrote, "Just talked to you bra ... Never go forget yo smile n the way talk n of course yo music ... We got some good ass memories together n that go always bring a smile to my face #restupquan we was cooking up some shit too."

On his Instagram Stories, Playboi Carti shared a video of Rich Homie Quan rapping along to his fan-favorite track "The Most" alongside frequent collaborators Young Thug and Birdman on a tour bus. He also shared a clip from the "Milk Marie" music video and a picture of him alongside Thug.

Quavo updated his Instagram Stories after hearing the news. "May God be with us never saw this being a part of our journey," he wrote alongside an image that showed him, the late Takeoff, and Young Thug.

Metro Boomin, producer of Quan's songs such as "Too Short" and "Around the World" also offered his condolences and shared some snapshots of their memories.

Rich Homie Quan first started dropping music in 2012 with a pair of mixtapes, iconically titled I Go In on Every Song and Still Goin In. He continued that naming convention with the follow-up tapes, Still Goin In: Reloaded, I Promise I Will Never Stop Going In, and If You Ever Think I Will Stop Goin' In Ask RR (Royal Rich).

He released his only studio album, Rich as in Spirit, in 2018. The rapper is survived by his four children and girlfriend, Amber Williams.
