Yesterday, an ice storm ravaged most of southern Quebec, leaving one million households without power.
Many trees fell in Montreal and its surrounding towns while many school boards cancelled classes for the day.
Hydro-Quebec continues to scramble to bring electricity back to its customers. Of the million affected, nearly half of them reside in Montreal.

The ice storm also landed in Ottawa, where the city’s fire services tweeted a video of a tree lit on fire.

Tree fires weren’t exclusive to Ottawa as one Montrealer caught a fire spreading from a tree to a power line.
I hope everyone is safe in Montreal. About 1/3 of all Hydro Quebec customers don’t have power. Bigger risks like fires are the worrisome 2nd order effects. I hope those hydro workers are given grace too, it won’t be an easy week after this ice storm.
The conditions got so dire, Transport Quebec shut down the Victoria Bridge which leads to the city’s southern suburbs.

According to CTV News, Hydro-Quebec aims to restore power back to a third of the afflicted customers by Friday morning. Some households, however, might only have their power restored within a few days.
