A Florida woman was charged with aggravated child abuse after she got involved in a fight between her daughter and another high school student earlier this month.

Kathryn Stephanopoulos, 34, received a text from her daughter on Aug. 14 informing her that she "believes she was going to get into a fight" with a former female friend and fellow Flagler-Palm Coast High School student when the two reached their bus stop, according to an arrest affidavit from the Flagler County Sheriff's Office, obtained by FOX 35 Orlando.

Authorities said the two students agreed to fight each other following a falling out over the summer.

Stephanopoulos arrived at the bus stop before they did to try and prevent them from fighting, but her efforts were unsuccessful. "Once the fight began, the mother joined the fight instead of trying to break it up," the sheriff's office said.

The altercation was recorded by a student on the bus.

While Stephanopoulos fought her daughter's ex-friend, a second scuffle broke out between her daughter and a male student who tried to intervene.

Stephanopoulos and her daughter eventually fled the scene in their car. She was arrested days later after an investigation was conducted into the incident.

Stephanopoulos was released on a $1,000 bond and expressed "regret and embarrassment" over the matter.
