Melania Trump finally breaks her silence on her nude modeling photos.

If you weren’t familiar, the photos of the 54-year-old former First Lady are from a January 2000 “Naked supermodel special” issue of British GQ, per the New York Times. At the time, Melania was only dating Donald Trump, now 78, and even posed nude inside of the former president’s Boeing 727 for the magazine.

“Why do I stand proudly behind my nude modeling work?” she asked in a 45-second video shared to her official social media accounts. “The more pressing question is, why has the media chosen to scrutinize my celebration of the human form in a fashion photo shoot?”

She continued, “Are we no longer able to appreciate the beauty of the human body? Throughout history master artists have revered the human shape, evoking profound emotions and admiration.”

“We should honor our bodies and embrace the timeless tradition of using art as a powerful means of self expression,” she added.

It’s not the first time the former First Lady’s nude modeling photos have circulated on social media, but her sudden defense of the photos appear to be part of the promotional campaign for her forthcoming memoir, Melania, set to hit stores on Oct. 8.

The photos recirculated in August 2016 and spotlighted alleged inconsistencies about Mrs. Trump’s immigration status at the time of the photoshoot.

Mrs. Trump has been sharing a short series of self-narrated videos to her social media accounts since earlier this month in promotion of the book.

As noted by the Times, the elusive former First Lady has made few appearances while her husband has been on the campaign trail. She did not attend the former president’s recent trial in Manhattan, but did appear at two fundraisers at Mar-a-Lago and at Trump Tower.
