'John Wick: Chapter 3' Dethrones 'Avengers: Endgame' to Top Box Office

'Endgame' still had a historic weekend.

After dominating the box office since its release, Avengers: Endgamehas finally been knocked off the top spot by John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum

The third installment of the John Wick saga is projected to pull in $56.8 million this weekend. This is Lionsgate's highest-grossing opening weekend since 2015's The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2. 

Despite surrendering its box office crown, Endgame still had a historic weekend. Per Deadline, the $29.4 millionin sales earned by Endgame adds to the domestic $770.7 million generated since its United States premiere. That total makesit the second-highest grossing film in the domestic box office history, pushing past Avatar's $760.5 million. The Marvel smash is just $2 million away from overtaking Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Warner Bros.' Pokemon Detective Pikachu also put up good numbers in its second week. The Ryan Gosling-voiced film earned $23.2 million this weekend for the No. 3 slot. This is considerably better than A Dog’s Journey, which opened up its theater run with just $9 million.
