In a rare feat, this weekend's Saturday Night Live was thoroughly watchable from beginning to end. That was in large part—or better yet, the largest possible part—due to host and musical guest Donald Glover.
In fact, according to a Deadline ratings report published Sunday, the Glover-hosted episode gave the weekly NBC sketch series a boost. The episode, the first new SNL since April 14, bagged a 4.1 Live/same day rating and a 1.8 in the 18-49 age demographic. The same night as his double-duty SNL takeover, Glover surprise-released a new Childish Gambino track titled "This Is America." The song's official video, directed by Atlanta's Hiro Murai, will quite realistically go down as this year's defining piece of art.
Next for Glover, who's rolling out the last two episodes of Atlanta's second season in the coming weeks, is Solo: A Star Wars Story. Glover's take on a young Lando Calrissian is joined by Alden Ehrenreich, Emilia Clarke, Woody Harrelson, Thandie Newton, and replacement director Ron Howard.
On the Gambino side of things, don't ruin your whole year by skipping out on his upcoming tour with Rae Sremmurd and Vince Staples. It'll be worth whatever you have to spend to get in the door.
