Former Glee actor Matthew Morrison is set to star in the upcoming Chinese science fiction film Crazy Alien, but the actor has condemned a shocking video of a dog being abused on set, Deadline reports.

According to PETA, a whistleblower on set filmed the video, showing a dog trapped in a cage that is then thrown into the air by a crane and crashing into a freezing river. This was also apparently done several times to get the dog to bark loudly for a scene. "I witnessed first hand one of the worst animal cruelty acts I have ever seen," a whistleblowersaid. "The director took many takes and this was just awful to witness as the torment went on." After seeing the footage for himself, Morrison took to Twitter to share his disappointment. "I’ve just been made aware and seen a video from the set of a film I worked on in China. My heart is broken to see any animal treated this way," Morrison said in the tweet. "Had I been on set or known about this, I would have made all efforts to stop this."

I’ve just been made aware and seen a video from the set of a film I worked on in China. My heart is broken to see any animal treated this way. Had I been on set or known about this, I would have made all efforts to stop this. I’ve called the producers to express my outrage.

PETA also reported that the dog was not given any breaks for two hours as the takes were filmed. The group is calling for a boycott of the film, the scene to be taken out and for the its director, Ning Hao, to be banned from working with animals in the future. Laws and restrictions pertaining to animal care on movie sets, and in general, are different in China, which might explain how this could have happened.
