Our beloved fist-toting, whiskey-slinging Marvel superhero Jessica Jones is returning to Netflix on March 8. In a new trailer for the upcoming season, we first see Jones in a much-needed anger management class where she summises her backstory, as she bounces a ball against a wall: “My whole family was killed in a car accident; someone did horrific experiments on me; I was abducted, raped, and forced to kill someone. And I’m in here bouncing a goddamn ball.”

As the scene cuts to her office, we see her pull a bottle of whiskey out of her bag, which, throughout the series, seems to be one of the few consistent things she can rely on. When someone out of the camera shot asks her how anger management was, she responds, “Still angry.”

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, though a reformed superhero, Jones still uses her abilities while pursuing a career as a private investigator, and to save the people she loves. Fellow Marvel superhero Luke Cage’s description of Jones is spot on, calling her a “hard-drinking, short-fuse, mess of a woman” in the trailer. It looks like we’re in for another season of fights and binge drinking from Marvel’s dark horse, Jones.

Jessica Jones has been praised for its noir tone, as well as the way it approaches sexuality and darker, more complex topics like rape, assault, and post-traumatic stress disorder. The first season won a Peabody Award for the “Entertainment and Children’s programs” category, and a Hugo Award for short-form dramas. We most recently saw Jessica Jones appear in the first season of Netflix’s The Defenders, alongside Luke Cage, Daredevil, and Iron Fist.
