Star Wars: The Last Jedi just crossed a major threshold by grossing $1.04 billion at the worldwide box office, reports Deadline

This is the second Disney film to accomplish this feat after the live action Beauty and the Beast, which tops the list with $1.26 billion, according to Box Office Mojo. However, the latest Star Wars installment is placed third overall in the list of films this year that crossed the billion-dollar mark with The Fate of the Furious ($1.23 billion) in second place.

The film still has a bit of catching up within the franchise as well since Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story surpass it with over $2 billion and $1.05 billion in box office numbers, respectively.

But the odds are in their favor as the latest box office numbers doesn't include the Chinese market since the film won't be released there until Friday (Jan. 5). All in all, Star Wars is proving to be Disney's most lucrative project to date. With The Last Jedi, the movie franchise surpassed $4 billion -- roughly the same amount it paid to acquire the entity from Lucasfilm. If Disney manages to snag sections of 21st Century Fox, the media conglomerate is looking at another win.
