If a Boiler Room event ever pops up in your city, cancel any plans you have and get a ticket because, in the words of 50 Cent in 2004, things are about to “get loose in this motherfucker.”

That was certainly the case this weekend in Los Angeles when meme overlords PIZZASLIME teamed up with the Boiler Room crew for an epic, adrenaline-charged takeover of the city’s latest hotspot, THE SUPER-MRKT. The 3000-capacity pop-up venue, a converted supermarket brought back to life by the team behind Stranger Than, opened its doors to a patchwork of party-goers on Friday, September 20. Everyone was dressed to impress and ready to bask in new venue energy, sweating their asses off to the sounds of some of music’s most influential producers.

After openers Quinn Blake, Honey, and Sophie Gray welcomed fans in, delivering a nourishing blend of dance and hip–hop, things started to heat up when Blaketheman1000 and Fifi took the stage. Going back to back with a variety of deep house cuts and reworked haymaker hits (including a female version of Drake’s “Hotline Bling”), it was the oldies that turned out to be the goodies, best proven when Far East Movement’s “Like a G6” boomed out over the venue’s immaculate sound system, earning the loudest cheers of the night to that point.

Benny Blanco snuck in for a quick surprise set, which, despite being very short, saw the multi-platinum producer-songwriter cram in some big-time tunes. Opening with Khia’s “My Neck, My Back,” Swizz Beatz’ “It’s Me Bitches” and Lil Wayne’s “6 Foot 7 Foot,” he transitioned into some of the hits that made him a household name, including songs by Rihanna, Katy Perry and Kesha. The “Diamonds” hitmaker—who had Beverly Hills chef Yusuke Yamamoto on hand throughout the set, toasting sake and feeding him tuna sashimi—also paid homage to his pop star girlfriend Selena Gomez by slipping her 2011 song “Who Says” into his set.

Despite arriving a little late to the stage, Murda Beatz arguably had the set of the night. From the moment the opening bars of his Migos hit “Pipe It Up” rang out, the Canadian boy wonder had the crowd gassed up. Like a conductor, he worked the room with precision, effortlessly hopping genres, going from Kendrick Lamar to Panic At The Disco, then switching it up entirely and blending Daft Punk with Blur. Rich The Kid appeared as a special guest, and Murda Beatz also took a moment to pay tribute to Fatman Scoop, who died last month at the age of 56.

Mike WiLL Made-It began his headline set a little scrappy—although it wasn’t clear whether this was down to a technical issue or the producer taking a minute to get used to the setup—but it didn’t take long for him to regroup and start banging out hit after hit. Whether it was 2 Chainz and Drake’s “No Lie,” Juicy J’s “Bandz A Make Her Dance,” Rae Sremmurd’s “No Flex Zone,” or Kendrick Lamar’s “HUMBLE,” he had a full clip tucked and he wasn’t afraid to offload on the Boiler Room crowd. Chief Keef made an appearance, as did Wiz Khalifa, who debuted a new track and encouraged everyone present to “stay loving each other.” Mike, who seemed to be enjoying himself just as much as the crowd, pushed his set a little longer than originally scheduled, eating into time reserved for Ramsey’s closeout set, although, honestly, nobody seemed to mind.

Some of the special guests who were in attendance on Friday night included pop polymath Finneas O’Connell, who vibed out to Blanco’s set alongside girlfriend Claudia Sulewski; 13 Reasons Why actor Dylan Minette; Portland rapper Aminé; Brockhampton co-founder Kevin Abstract; and rapper/meme king Ka5sh, who, although he was tucked away at the back by VIP, wasn’t hard to spot due to the massive pink heart puffer jacket and flamboyant jewel-encrusted shades he was rocking.

Described as a creative project by “two idiot savants” who are “really good at making shit go viral as fuck,” the PIZZASLIME boys proved on Friday night that they know how to throw a party. From the carefully curated lineup and top-notch venue, to the random cardboard cutouts of Shannon Sharpe, Danny DeVito, and Jojo Siwa bouncing around the crowd, they really thought of everything, and we can’t wait to check out their next gig.
