Thundercat is gearing up for his first full-length project since 2017 with the release of his latest single, "Dragonball Durag."

This lighthearted tune is laced with an instrumental produced by Thundercat and Flying Lotus. Together, the pair made a beat that is reminiscent of the jazz layered, disco-funk instrumentals that the artist has mastered. This music is accented by Thundercat's silky falsetto voice and saxophone breaks.

"Baby girl, how do I look in my durag/Would you tell me the truth?" Thundercat sings. "Stay with me and love me through the night/Endlessly."

The Zack Fox–helmed video arrived shortly after and boasts appearances from Kali Uchis, comedian/A Black Lady Sketch Show actress Quinta Brunson, and HAIM:

The song can be considered something of a personality track. Thundercat has an affinity for Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z. Also, he wants this song to show how making great music can be super fun.

"I have a Dragon Ball tattoo…it runs everything. There is a saying that Dragon Ball is life," Thundercat said in a statement while also addressing his love for durags. "There are two types of people in the world, the guy with the durag and the guy who doesn’t know what a durag is. The durag is a superpower, to turn your swag on… it does something, it changes you. If you have one in the wardrobe, think about wearing it tonight, and it may pop off because you never know what’s going to happen."

"Dragonball Durag" is the first single off Thundercat's upcoming album, It Is What It Is. This project will feature Childish Gambino, Steve Lacy, Zach Fox, and more. It Is What It Is will release on April 3.
