Cardi B Reportedly Negotiating for Solo Super Bowl Set

Maroon 5 is somehow headlining the next Super Bowl halftime show. However, according to a new report, Cardi B may be negotiating for a solo set of her own.

As a surefire omen that all is not well and humankind is indeed doomed to extinction, Maroon 5 was flabbergastingly selected as the next Super Bowl halftime act.

Now, according to a TMZreport, Cardi B—who appeared on Maroon 5's "Girls Like You" last year—is said to be in talks to not only perform that track during the halftime show, but also give fans a Super Bowl set of her own. Cardi is reportedly fielding "a lot" of other performance offers for February, with the main contingent in the alleged Super Bowl discussions being a solo set.

Complex has reached out to Cardi's reps for comment and will update this article accordingly.

The initial news that Maroon 5 had been chosen was predictably met with backlash, mostly centered around the fact that next year's Super Bowl is being held in Atlanta, which is undeniably the current music capitol of the United States. Instead of choosing an artist that represents that history (Gucci Mane? Future? T.I.?), the Powers That Be instead chose a radio pop band from Los Angeles.

Earlier this year, Bruno Mars stepped up with some suggestions for the NFL, tagging them on Twitter and urging them to take seriously the opportunity to showcase Atlanta's rich musical legacy. "Outkast. T.I., Gucci, Lil Jon, Jeezy, Jermaine Dupri, just to name a few," he suggested at the time. "It would be the best party TV has ever seen!"
