21 Savage Says Drake Doesn’t Get Enough 'Respect' for Helping 'Up-and-Coming Rappers'

"Drake just a genuine-ass good-hearted person."

Back in 2016, Drake dropped the song "Sneakin" featuring an up-and-coming artist known as 21 Savage. The track, which premiered on OVO Sound Radio, arrived just a few months after 21 released Savage Mode, a collab project with Metro Boomin, that was beginning to garner some serious attention, especially when his track "X" with Future started making noise on the charts.

Around that same time, news that Drake bought 21 a red Ferrari 488, similar to the one seen in their "Sneakin'" video, began circulating after 21 made a post to social media.

In a recent profile for GQ, 21 discussed the story behind the six-figure birthday gift he received from Drake. "Nah, I bought it," he said. "But Drake brought me one for my birthday to ride around L.A. He the only one that got me something for my birthday that year."

The disclosure that Drake was the only person to get him something for his 24th birthday led to 21 speaking up on how Drizzy has treated artists like himself at the time, who were beginning to make a name for themselves in the industry. "Drake just a genuine-ass good-hearted person," he said. "He did a lot of shit he didn’t have to do. He do a lot of shit for up-and-coming rappers, period. I don’t think he get his respect for that. Every fuckin' year, he pull a new artist up. Ain't no other artist on his level do that shit."

Before dropping songs leading up to the release of his fifth studio album Scorpion, Drake has most recently collaborated with Lil Baby on "Yes Indeed," and BlocBoy JB for "Look Alive."" 21’s claim that Drizzy does a lot for up-and-coming rappers appears to check out. The suggestion that he does more than anyone is, of course, up for debate.
