Nicki Minaj on Cardi B: ‘I Have Never Seen Her Show Me Genuine Love in an Interview’

Nicki Minaj felt "ambushed" by Cardi B and Migos.

Even though the idea that there can only be one queen of rap is a bit boring, the ongoing would-be feud between Nicki Minaj and Cardi B has been brewing for months now.

Although Cardi herself has repeatedly denied any beef between the two, Nicki Minaj had an interview with Zane Lowe on Beats 1 to promote her new singles “Chun-Li” and “Barbie Tingz.” She addressed the rumors head on.

"The only thing that Cardi did that really hurt my feelings was the first interview after 'Motorsport' came out,” Nicki said. “It just really hurt me because the only thing she kept saying was, 'I didn't hear that verse. She changed her verse.'"

"I kind of felt ambushed,” Nicki continued, especially after Quavo "didn't back [her] up" on the story of how the record came about.

Nicki also said that Quavo's told her: "I would go on Twitter and back you up if you were my girl." Plus, Nicki says that she wanted to shoot the "Motorsport" video with Cardi B, but there was a scheduling conflict due to her hairdresser, who couldn't make it on the day Cardi was shooting.

“All of them allowed me to look like I lied and even with the scheduling conflict, she’s using my hairdresser now, so even he can attest to the fact that there was a scheduling conflict,” Nicki said.

“I really fully supported her and up until this recent interview I had never seen her show me genuine love in an interview,” she said. “I can just imagine how many girls wish they could of been on a song with Nicki Minaj. I’m not saying it in a cocky way.” Nicki was audibly upset as she spoke.

Nicki is referencing the controversy around the only song that the two women are both featured on, “Motorsport,” by Migos. In late October of last year, Nicki took to Twitter to address rumors that were circulating about the song. She revealed then that she was initially told the song would be just her and Quavo, but he asked her for permission to add Cardi B to the song, which she okayed.

About a month later, Cardi B did a radio interview in which she was notably awkward when asked about Nicki Minaj. In that interview, she said that when she first heard “Motorsport,” Nicki’s verse wasn’t finished, and what she heard was different from the verse that is on the final song.

Additionally, Nicki also clarified that the line in a snippet of her new song “I ain't never played a ho position/I ain't never had to strip to get the pole position” is definitely not about Cardi B, despite what many online thought. We already knew that, but Nicki went one step further and said that it was written one and a half years ago. It was originally meant for Drake’s last album.
