Kanye West Shares Advice for Creatives: 'You Have to Protect Your Ability to Create at All Cost'

Kanye returned to Twitter on Tuesday to remind his followers about the importance of protecting their ideas.

Good news: Kanye West is still tweeting.

Just days after he broke his 11-month social media hiatus, the 40-year-old multi-hyphenate returned to Twitter on Tuesday to dole out more life lessons for his fellow creatives. He began by reminding his followers that their ideas are their most valuable assets and that they should do everything in their power to ensure their creativity is not hindered—even if that means rejecting money.

Kanye also addressed, perhaps, the biggest obstacle for creative types: distractions. He admitted that there are certain situations in which someone needs to simply “get rid of everything” in order to pursue and, hopefully, achieve his/her vision.

Though we love when Kanye tweets, he isn’t conveying anything new in these recent posts. The rapper has been a bastion of creativity since the early stages of his career, and has always encouraged like-minded artists to guard and hone their ideas.

“When I create and when we create, it’s not based off of the word you hear all the time: ‘celebrity advertising,’” Kanye told a concert audience in 2014 about his collaboration with Adidas. “It’s nothing I love more than to sit there and put the fabrics together, and think about the way people react to the creations in real life […] Creativity is my oxygen. I have to create, and I don’t care how crazy I look to anyone as long as I can make the best product for all of you.”

It’s good to see that, even after all these years, 'Ye is still an advocate for ingenuity, imagination, and creative principles.

Maybe his recent Twitter activity is a taste of his upcoming Break the Simulation philosophy book.
