In 2013 Kevin Gates went from being the hometown hero of Baton Rouge to becoming a breakout star of the South. Gates won fans over with his unique voice and delivery as well as his riveting tales that chronicled his life on the streets. His February release The Luca Brasi Story drew a lot of eyes and ears in his direction, most notably Atlantic Records, who would add the 27-year-old rapper to their roster just a few weeks after his mixtape dropped. Gates followed up Luca Brasi with the equally impressive Stranger Than Fictionin July and he hasn't looked back since.

Gates recently embarked on his "Stranger Than Fiction" tour in October which featured a number of stops across the South. In part one of his tour diary, Gates visits producers Rico Love and Jim Jonsin in the studio before he hits the road. Along with recording some new music Gates also picks up some words of wisdom from the two veteran artists. With Florida on his mind Gates performs a string of concerts in the Southern most state in the continguous U.S. His live performance shines through here as he gets up close and personal with his fans by jumping into the crowd. Showmanship at its best from Gates.
