NowThis News has dropped previously unaired footage of an interview in which Fox News host Tucker Carlson told Dutch economics writer/historian Rutger Bregman to "go f*ck yourself." In addition to that succinct suggestion, subjects that were discussed included Fox's role in politics as well as taxing the rich.
Weeks ago Bregman had mentioned the trainwreck exchange, which he said came after the two talked about Bregman's viral remarks at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. "I went to Davos to speak truth to power," Bregman told Carlson. "And I'm doing the exact same thing right now. You may not like it. But you're a millionaire funded by billionaires and that's the reason why you're not talking about these issues."
"But I am talking about these issues," Carlson said in response, at which point Bregman said that he (Carlson) was just getting on the bandwagon and that his opposition to the "global elite" was unconvincing. At that point Carlson tells him to f himself, prior to adding that he tried to give him a "fair hearing."
"And I hope this gets picked up because you’re a moron," Carlson continues. "I tried to give you a hearing, but you were too f*cking annoying."
Justin Wells, a senior executive producer for Carlson's program, Tucker Carlson Tonight, originally told bothMediaite and The Hill that the segment was scrapped because Bregman was waging a "calculated personal insult campaign" that wasn't worthy of viewers' time.
Bregman, who released the footage (viewable below), said he chose to do so because "I think we should keep talking about the corrupting influence of money in politics." He added that he stands by what he said in the footage.
Last week Bregman also stated that, when he emailed him asking when the sitdown was set to air, Carlson called him an "asshole." At the time he posted that on his Twitter as well:
